Did you know that the actual history of Valentine’s Day has nothing to do with whether you have a boyfriend or not. It originates with the Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February. Supposedly the pagan festival, Lupercalia, was strategically placed in February in hopes to tie it into the Christian holiday where St. Valentine of Rome was recognized.

If you thought you were being creative with your corny Valentines’ greetings, you were wrong! Valentine’s Day greetings and messages have been popular as far back as the Middle Ages. The oldest written Valentine’s message is a poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of New Orleans. He was being held captive in The Tower of London, and wrote a love letter to his wife.
