The new rule about headphones is troubling students across campus. It states that listening devices are not allowed to be worn anywhere on campus, especially the halls and classrooms. Students have strong opinions on the matter. Junior Dodie Funderburg states, “Sometimes people just aren’t that comfortable, and they just focus more on music in their life, and I think that kinda helps.” According to some students, the administration has taken a serious misstep. However, along with the administration, other students believe that the rule will strengthen Jackson Academy’s community. Senior Reese Anderson believes that “the faculty is right…I think it’s a positive thing.” English teacher Jay Levy asserts, “This rule will build a strong community. It’s also very annoying when students don’t listen because they have their AirPods in.” The administration is unwavering in their enforcement of the rule, much to some students’ dismay. Only the test of time will determine if the enforcement of the rule will bring Jackson Academy together–or drive it apart.
