Soccer season is quickly approaching for Jackson Academy. JV and Varsity boys are scheduled to have their first game on 14 November. Once again the Raiders are hoping to win the championship, falling 3-0 to the Jackson Prep Patriots in the 2018-2019 season. The Lady Raiders Soccer Team have already concluded their 2019-2020 season. They finished off by going to the championship game and having a 13-4 overall record for the season.
The Varsity Boys Soccer Team are composed of 7 seniors, 4 juniors, 12 sophomores, and 1 freshman. Both JV and Varsity will play a total of 16 games this season. The 2018-2019 season record for Varsity was 11-6. The season record for JV Soccer was 11-1. The single loss was a result from a rival game vs Prep, with the score being 0-2. Varsity’s last game was a championship game also against the Patriots, with the score being 0-3.
Varsity Soccer practice started on 4 November. JV Practice will start next week, on 11 November. Coach Phillip Buffington is the current head Varsity Coach. JA has recently recruited a new coach for the JV team, presumably Jayon Robinson. Robinson coaches at Holmes Community College.
It has been roughly a couple years since JA Soccer has won a championship. But this year, it seems that the trophy is attainable. With practice Monday-Friday every week, it looks like the odds could be in their favor. Andrew Harrison, a freshman, was asked if they would win the championship this year. The Patriots are always predicted to go to the finals, so he refers to them in his response: “I’m not sure. But I am pretty sure Prep lost multiple seniors, so we have a good chance.”
